The Fall Intramural Sports season concluded the first week of November with cross campus games between George Washington and Jefferson-Houston’s intramural teams against Francis C. Hammond’s teams.  On Tuesday, November 1, Hammond’s basketball teams travelled to GW.  The grade 6 game was close with excellent defense on both sides.  GW/JH edged out Hammond 30-28.  For the grade 7 game, GW/JH went out to an early lead but Hammond never gave up and almost pulled an improbable comeback, just falling short 40-38.  The grade 8 game included many 3-pointers, an electric scoreboard, an energetic GW home crowd, and an equally energetic Hammond cheer squad.  After all the dust settled and the final horn sounded, GW/JH was victorious 40-33.  There was also a GW/JH lacrosse scrimmage on the soccer field.

On Thursday, November 3, Hammond returned the hospitality and welcomed GW/JH to play softball and soccer.  The softball game had a few long home run blasts and a GW/JH victory 7-4.  The grade 6 coed soccer game displayed excellent teamwork and athleticism.  GW/JH scored twice early and maintained this lead for a 2-0 victory.  The grade 7 coed game also saw GW/JH go on to an early two goal lead, but Hammond came back and ended the game in a 3-3 draw.  The grade 8 game was all about pure skill, ball control, and a nice scoring touch.  Both Hammond and GW/JH players pulled out all the stops and played their hearts out.  GW/JH ended up with a 5-2 victory.  Overall it was a great week for Alexandria middle school students, with help from the coaches, administrators, directors, parents, and fans.  It was a great sight to see so many “Future Titans” showcasing their skills.
