GWMS Teams are Invited to Join Odyssey of the Mind

Sheeba Ahmed, GWMS OM Coordinator, (sheeba_ahmed@yahoo.com), is ready to help students form teams, recruit an adult coach, and get going -- the regional tournament is in March.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international team-based creating problem-solving competition for students.  It incorporates elements of engineering, robotics, art, music, drama, planning, budgeting, and teamwork, with an emphasis on creativity and fun.  Teams of 5-7 students develop solutions to long-term problems and then present their solutions at a local competition against other local schools.  Top teams advance to the state and world competitions.  Teams also prepare for a “spontaneous” portion of the competition, where they will be presented with a heretofore unknown problem and will have just a matter of minutes to craft a solution (think the air scrubber scene in “Apollo 13”).

Please see the attached flyer and you can find more information at http://www.odysseyofthemind.com/

GWMS Teams are invited to solve the problems listed below.  Teams need one or two adult coaches (parents or teachers) and 5-7 students who have the drive, creativity, and skills that these problems require.
  1. Driver’s Test
  2. The Not-so-Haunted House
  3. It’s How We Rule
  4. The Stackable Structure
  5. Seeing is Believing (Sponsored by NASA)
