A Message from the President:
Our next PTA is scheduled for this Tuesday, November 14th, via Zoom and streamed on Facebook Live at 7pm. Spanish and Amharic interpretation will be available. We will hear from Ms. Taneika Tukan, Executive Director of Community Partnerships and Engagement. Ms. Tukan will share tips for managing ACPS communications, specifically effectively using ParentSquare for secondary families. We hope you’ll join us with your questions, or share your own best practices. Big thank you to Tamara Jovovic for leading the amazing Election Day bake sale effort. And thank you to everyone who contributed baked goods or worked the booth. Your hard work paid off with sales and donations to the bake sale of $1,496! Save the date for the Presidential Primary on March 5 (no school) when we hope to do it all again and maybe break that record! Also, shout out to Fran Boller for sorting, bagging, handing out orders, and selling spirit wear on Election Day. If you were not able to pick up your spirit wear on Election Day, Fran will reach out to coordinate. And thank you to our Lost and Found coordinator Alix Coughlin for bringing out the items on Election Day. We saw many items happily reunited. You can always check the different lost and found locations within the school, and we’ll let you know when we schedule the next big opportunity to sift through lots of items in one central location. Honor Roll of Donors
Our big fall fundraiser, Honor Roll of Donors, is on! Thank you to all who have already contributed! Check the progress toward our $11,000 goal on the Honor Roll of Donors page. This year, we spiced up our Honor Roll of Donors with a friendly grade level competition for a Freezing with Freezy Pops lunch. Check out the details and grade level standings. National Junior Honor Society ALIVE! Canned Food Drive
GW’s NJHS is collecting canned goods to donate to ALIVE! Members are collecting food during advisory period. They hope to exceed last year’s collection of 400 pounds, so let’s help them get there! Please no glass jars, open or expired goods. Accepted items include: canned fruits, vegetables, soup, beans; canned meat and fish; spaghetti, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, kid-friendly single-serve, microwavable entrees; cooking oil; cereal and oatmeal, rice, couscous, quinoa; whole-wheat or multi-grain crackers; fruit or vegetable juice; applesauce, jellies and jams; liquid shelf-stable milk; canned or dried beans or peas.

GW Orchestra Thanksgiving Pie Sale
Order your Thanksgiving pies to support GW Orchestra. Place your order by Thursday, November 16. Available for pick up or delivery on Monday, November 20, or delivery on Tuesday November 21. Find more details on the order form!
Extra Halloween Candy Collection
GWMS PTA is collecting Halloween candy for the staff and teachers. Feel free to drop off any candy in the bin on the porch at 528 N Payne St, Alexandria (blue house on the corner of Payne and Pendelton). Collection bin will be available through the end of the month. Candy will be given to the staff and teachers the first week of December.
Crazy Mason Spirit Night, Wednesday, November 29
We have a new fun treat for our November Dine Out Fundraiser. Thanks to Crazy Mason (716 King St) for hosting GWMS PTA on November 29 from 4 to 7pm. Stop by after school for a milkshake or ice cream and 10% of ALL sales will go to GWMS.
Harris Teeter’s Together in Education Program
Please take a minute to link your VIC card in advance of your Thanksgiving grocery shopping! Even if Harris Teeter isn’t your regular store, you might find yourself there for that whipping cream you forgot to buy for your GW Orchestra pumpkin pie! You must re-link your card every year. You can link up to 5 schools so you can still support your elementary and/or high schools and GWMS too. GW is #6713 at Harris Teeter.
